The city’s alive and swinging duo, Marilyn Monroe and Elvis Presley, announced the winners of the 8th annual Brighton & Hove Business Awards (BAHBAs) at the Brighton Pier on Thursday 6th June 2013.

The gala business event was attended by over 300 business representatives from across the city including VIPs:

 • Peter Field, Lord Lieutenant of East Sussex

• Caroline Lucas MP

• Chuka Ummuna MP, Shadow Secretary for Business, Innovation and Skills

• Councillor Ann Norman, Brighton & Hove City Council

• Jason Kitcat, Leader of Brighton & Hove City Council

• Penny Thompson CBE, Chief Executive of Brighton & Hove City Council

The title of Outstanding Brightonian was awarded to Martin Perry, who has spent more than 15 years at the helm of Brighton and Hove Albion FC, ten of which were spent fighting tooth and nail for the construction of the £23m American Express Community Stadium.

Other big winners on the night included who took home Greatest Contribution to the Community and the Dental Health Spa which won the title of Best Customer Service. The American Express Community Stadium was named Best Place to Visit whilst Brighton & Hove Food and Drink Festival took the Best Event in the City.

However, it was European Recruitment who were awarded with two awards on the night for Business Beyond the City and Best Place to Work.

Tony Mernagh, chairman of the judges, commented: “The BAHBAs are all about capturing the spirit of Brighton & Hove and recognising the stars of our city – those companies, organisations and individuals that are inspirations to us all.

“This year’s winners are great examples of the city’s business talent and are truly deserving of the titles with which they have been awarded. They stand as a testament to the success of Brighton’s dynamic and hard-working business community.”

Eight leading Brighton Businesses, three major titles, four trade organisations and one of the most iconic and fun venues in the city came together to create a competition which acknowledged the diversity and uniqueness of our City and celebrated those companies, organisations and individuals who really build the Brighton and Hove brand.
