International Women’s Day: Raising Awareness for Women’s Health

International Women’s Day

This Sunday marks International Women’s Day, a time to celebrate women while also raising awareness of important health issues affecting millions of women every day.

This year, I’m personally supporting women’s health by running the London Marathon for Endometriosis UK. This is a cause very close to my heart. My daughter Lori lived with the symptoms of endometriosis for 15 years before finally receiving a diagnosis.

Like many women, her pain was often dismissed or misunderstood for years. After living with severe symptoms for so long, she underwent a hysterectomy last year at 39 years old.

Lori’s story is not unusual. Endometriosis affects 1 in 10 women, yet it can take years for many to receive a diagnosis. Raising awareness and funding research is incredibly important to help improve support and treatment for those affected.

To help support this cause, I will also be running the Brighton Marathon 10K with an amazing group of supporters ahead of London, and I’ll be sharing my journey along the way.

If you would like to support the cause, I have just launched my fundraising page.

Support my London Marathon fundraiser here.

Even the smallest donation can help raise awareness and support women living with endometriosis.

Women’s Health & Oral Health: The Hidden Connection

International Women’s Day is also an opportunity to talk about the important connection between oral health and overall health, particularly during key stages of a woman’s life, such as perimenopause and menopause.

Many people are unaware that women are three times more likely to suffer a stroke, and symptoms of cardiovascular issues can sometimes be overlooked or mistaken for menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes.

Because of this, we are encouraging our patients to check their blood pressure regularly as part of a preventative approach to health.

We are now offering blood pressure checks during dental visits, helping to identify potential early warning signs that might otherwise go unnoticed.

If you would like to come in for a blood pressure check and oral health assessment, please contact the practice to book an appointment.

Introducing Our Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) Health Plan

As part of our commitment to supporting both oral and systemic health, we are also launching our Guided Biofilm Therapy (GBT) Health Plan.

GBT is a modern, evidence-based approach to dental hygiene that gently and effectively removes harmful biofilm (plaque bacteria). Regular biofilm management is important not only for gum health but also for reducing risks associated with systemic conditions linked to oral inflammation.

Our new plan is designed to help patients:

  • Maintain healthier gums and teeth
  • Reduce the risk of periodontal disease
  • Support overall health and well-being
  • Attend regular preventative hygiene appointments

If you’d like to learn more about GBT and our new health plan, our team would be delighted to help.

How You Can Get Involved

This International Women’s Day, you can support women’s health by:

  • Donating to the Endometriosis UK London Marathon fundraiser
  • Booking a blood pressure check at the practice
  • Prioritising your preventative oral health care

Every step, whether running a marathon or attending a routine appointment, helps contribute to better health awareness and prevention.

Thank you for your continued support and for helping us raise awareness for women’s health.
