Composite fillings are white tooth coloured and can protect your tooth usually lasting many years.
Teeth can become damaged by physical wear and tear or by tooth decay from consuming sugary foods and drinks. Our dentist’s may recommend a filling, this will depend on the extent of the damage to your teeth, teeth can be filled with composite material to help protect any further damage and ensure functionality. Our dentists will discuss the options with you and plan treatments tailored to your needs.
Root canal treatment is needed to save a tooth when the nerve in the tooth dies and the root gets infected. This can happen because of decay, injury, or simply because a tooth has had to be heavily restored over time.
If the pulp becomes infected, the infection will spread through the root canal system of the tooth and may lead to an abscess in the bone at the end of the root. Root canal treatment, or root filling, involves taking the nerve out of a tooth otherwise the infection will spread and the tooth may need to be removed.
Root canal treatment may involve more than one visit to your dentist. The first appointment will be to relieve your pain by draining any abscess which may be present, and placing a root dressing and a temporary filling.
At the next appointment the root canal will be cleaned, shaped and disinfected. When your dentist is satisfied that the infection is gone, the tooth can be permanently root filled and subsequently restored. A local anaesthetic is used and it should feel no different to having an ordinary filling done.
Tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. If a tooth has been broken or damaged from decay then your dentist will try to repair it with a crown, filling or other treatment. However, there are cases where there is too much damage, decay or gum disease in which case you may need to have your tooth extracted.
Our Dental team will take an x-ray of the area in order to plan the best way to extract the tooth. You may be prescribed antibiotics after the surgery. If the tooth can be seen in the mouth, then a simple extraction is performed. This is commonly done using a local anaesthetic, we can offer certain dental extractions with sedation for those patients who may be nervous or have a dental phobia.
