- The removal of tooth structure or gums – enameloplasty, gingivectomy.
- Neither adding or removing dental materials, tooth structure or gums – teeth whitening (bleaching), laser whitening, gum depigmentation.
- Straightening of teeth accompanied by improvement in appearance of face – orthodontics.
Composite Bonding has evolved as a minimal invasive treatment that improves the teeth shape and size without removal of the tooth structure. It can transform the appearance, shape, shade and the colour of teeth on the same day, giving you a new smile instantly. Edge bonding can be used to improve the teeth by adding composite to just the edges of the tooth surface or composite veneers cover the whole surface of the teeth. Depending on your individual needs and desired result our competent team can advise you on which option either edge bonding or composite veneers would best suit your needs.
Composite is the tooth-coloured filling material & Bonding is the mechanical process whereby the tooth colour filling material is attached to the teeth. Some teeth are less aesthetically pleasing due to the way they have developed, dental trauma, or from general wear and tear throughout life which can result in cracks, chips and stains. Composite bonding can improve the appearance of these teeth by the addition of a tooth-coloured filling material to the teeth which are “bonded” to the natural tooth. This material is hand sculpted by the dentist to the desired shape to create a natural looking tooth. A wide variety of shades are available to ensure that the colour matches perfectly.
The main benefits are great results without the need for needles / injections and you do not need to drill any of the natural tooth structure, it is a completely reversible procedure and you can get excellent same day results. The tooth surface is thoroughly cleaned and then prepared with a gel that roughens the surface microscopically. The composite resin material is then applied using special instruments and brushes to sculpt to the desired shape, often in several layers. Using a special dental light, the material is then hardened. Further layers can then be added accordingly. The procedure is then completed with smoothing of the tooth surface and polishing.
Composite bonding is the ideal treatment for those who are on a quest for the perfect smile. It offers a quick and affordable solution for minor imperfections in teeth. One of the biggest benefits of composite bonding is the fact they can be fitted in just one visit. So, you can walk out the very same day with a whole new smile!
Porcelain veneers are designed to improve the colour, shape and position of front teeth. A veneer is a thin layer of porcelain made to fit over the front surface of a tooth to enhance its appearance. With minimal tooth adjustment, this treatment is extremely versatile. Veneers provide a great solution to chipped, or misaligned front teeth. They can also be used to close small gaps in teeth where orthodontic treatment is not suitable, and if one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others. For a single stained tooth, a precise shade of porcelain can be matched in order to deliver a lighter appearance.
Given veneers are so thin and held in place by a strong bond, the end result is extremely life-like, natural and healthy. Added to this, very little tooth enamel is removed in the process of treatment. You can have a simple one-tooth veneer treatment, or a whole set, where Dental Health Spa can provide you with a complete smile makeover.
The lifespan of veneers is a few years. Your dentist can advise more accurately in your case. However, given they are so life like and similar to real teeth, they can chip or break.
Teeth are prepared for a veneer by removing the outer enamel surface of the tooth, to ensure the veneer can be bonded permanently. To ensure the tooth stays the same size, the amount of enamel removed is minimal and will be the same as the thickness of the veneer to be fitted. Local anaesthetics is used to eliminate any discomfort. Once the tooth has been prepared, the dentist will take an ‘impression’ (mould). A dental technician will use this mould to create the veneer according to the specifications we provide, ensuring that we get a precise size and fit. Using a shade guide, we will make sure the colour of the veneer is a good match with the surrounding teeth.
Two visits are normally required, the first visit allows the dentist to prepare the tooth for treatment and take impressions. You will be given a temporary veneer at this stage. The second visit will involve the veneer being fit and checked for comfort and appearance. It can take a few days for you to get used to your veneer(s). We do ask patients to pop in again for a follow up check to ensure they are comfortable. If looked after, they can last up to 10-15 years on average. However, good oral hygiene and regular dental check-ups can extend the lifespan of your veneers. If you grind your teeth at night, we can provide you with a mouthguard to help protect your teeth while you sleep.
Your dentist may recommend contouring or re-contouring to resolve minor problems such as chipped or worn teeth or misshapen teeth. Tooth re-contouring can improve the overall look and balance of your smile. It can have the added benefit of making it easier to keep your teeth clean by making it easier to floss.
Tooth contouring is a very straightforward treatment and great results achieved in just one visit. The contouring procedure involves using sanding techniques or a diamond bur to gently smooth out imperfections and create neater, more aesthetic shapes to your teeth. It is a painless treatment so an anaesthetic is not required.
